Pamplico Squad Honored Wives At Annual Dinner

The Pamplico Fire and Rescue Squad, 18 volunteers honored their wives at a November 8 steak dinner. Mayor & Mrs. Coleman Cain and members of the City Council were also guests for the evening. Squad Cook, Myrl Hyman prepared and served the steak and all the trimmings. Chief Tommy Hicks welcomed each one and expressed his appreciation to the men for helping him in a job well done, the past year. Mayor Cain, commended the Dept. for their efficiency in the economical and effective methods of doing things.

Asst. Chief Johnny Poster, gave a run down on the calls and listed following equipment: Resuscitator, 1- 1952 - Ford Station Wagon with C B and Sheriff Network Radio, 2-2 1/2 Ton GMC Trucks (1) with 1,000 gal. tank and 500 GPM Booster Pump, (1) with 1,000 gal. tank and 100 GPM Booster pump; 1-1959 Ford Truck with 750 gal. tank and 100 GPM, Booster Pump, 1- International Metro walk-in Rescue Van with CB Radio, 1- Ambulance (dodge), 1-1953, 3/4 ton Weapon Carrier with 10 KW Generator and (2) large flood lights; 2- Generators (1) 6 KW on trailer, (1) 2 1/2 KW Generator on Trailer; 1-16 ft. Aluminum Boat, with 25 Hp. Motor and trailer; 1- 14 ft. Aluminum Boat, 10 Hp. Motor & trailer.

Captain Jerry Jones made comments on the classes in Fire Fighting, First Aid and Rescue. He gave some of the High Points, in Radiological Monitoring, in which many of the Dept. received certificates. This course was instructed by B. B. Gilbert who at that time was Florence County Civil Defense Director. Jones spoke of the school in the effects of Nuclear Weapons and their characteristics, that many of the men are attending in Lake City, S. C. at present with instructors from the University of  S.C. teaching. Lt. W. M. Tisdale's speech started where Asst. Chief Poston, left off. Telling of what the Dept. had done this past year in Man Power and Equipment.

Five new members have been added to the Dept. Names are as follows: Ray Calcutt, Leo Cox, Charles Cox, T. T. Hyman and Danny Poston. They were welcomed to the Dept. and Lt. Tisdale said he felt sure that these men would be an asset to the Dept. He told of the training and work night which is a night equipment is washed and repaired. Lt. Tisdale said "a Port-A-Power Hydraulic Rescue Kit is on order which is being given by the local Lions Club here."

C. G. "Tom" Haines was presented the man of the year award with these words from Lt. Tisdale, "Now the time has come for me in the behalf of the Dept. to show gratitude to the one who's generosity to achieve and maintain, and who's qualified to what ever there has to be done. The one who puts more man hours into the welfare of the Dept. trying to be as effective as is progressive in the betterment of the community. Thanking you C. G. "Tom" Haines for the outstanding job." Asst. Chief Poston and Chief Hicks gave each lady a box of chocolates.
