Picture and Text History of the Department

The old wood frame and wood door station that served as the only fire station through the early 1960's to early 1974. This was used mainly for extra storage when the Main Station at the Town Complex was built, and as a vehicle work area. It was knocked down by Hurricane Hugo in 1989. Town Police Officer Legrand Isgett stands out front. You can see the sign with the switch running to the siren. One long for a town fire, two long for a rural fire, three long for a rescue call.

This was in service from the early 1960's. It was torn down in 2007 to make space for the replacement Fire Station 2, named the Tom Haines Station for his many years of service.
